Chapter Twenty
TRU
Time feels like it has no meaning. The hot water soothing my worn muscles combined with the man across from me still massaging my calves and feet is like stepping into some alternate reality where I can be out and into a guy.
The sex we had earlier replays in my head, my cock hardening with desire again, a situation Midnight definitely notices. The sexy smile on his face as his hands move up and down my legs sends ripples across my skin.
âHave you ever been in love?â I ask, shaking my head when the words leave my mouth. âI was only thinking about it. I didnât mean to ask it out loud.â
âWhy? Do you not really want to know the answer?â
âI do, but itâs not my business. Unless you want to tell me.â
Midnight shifts in the water, leaning back as he places my feet on his stomach, his erection rubbing against the backs of my legs.
âYes,â he says quietly. âOnce. A long time ago.â
âWas it, like, true love?â
âIt wasâ¦all encompassing. It was torrid and clandestine. It was, ultimately, my ruin.â
I nod, studying the faraway expression on his face. âSorry. I didnât mean to hit a nerve.â
âItâs okay. Youâve shared your body with me. The very least I can do is answer your questions.â
âThatâs why youâre hesitant about opening up to me? Because youâre still hurt?â
âIâm not hurt anymore. Iâve made a certain peace with what happened, but I intend to learn from my mistakes. Sometimesâ¦â His words trail off as he runs his hands over my skin. âIf Iâm honest, Tru, there is a part of me that desperately wants to spill all my secrets to you. Unfortunately, self-preservation prevents it.â
âSo you think I wonât accept you. You think you could be something I would judge? I already know what you do for work and Iâm fine. What else could there be?â
Midnight scoffs. âI wish it were that simple.â Sitting up slightly, he reaches for my hand. âGet to know me more. Really pay attention. If you decide you want to pursue something with me, something real, then I promise Iâll tell you everything about me.â
âShouldnât that be the other way around?â I ask. âItâs not really fair to get me hooked and then drop a bomb on me, is it?â
His face goes blank for a second. âI never looked at it that way.â
Leaning forward, I close the space between us, climbing onto Midnightâs lap. His hands move down my back to my ass, squeezing gently as he fixes his gaze on me. âI want to know all your secrets.â
I press my lips to his, sinking against his body as he wraps his arms tightly around me. As usual, the tingles start up again as soon as he opens his mouth to me.
âTru,â he whispers, rubbing his thick cock against mine.
Gripping his shoulders, I climb up his body as much as I can, the slickness of the soapy water slowing me down. Midnight digs his fingers into my hips, lifting me easily, and I gasp as he presses kisses to my belly.
